EcoChill is proud to support the Refrigerant Recovery Trust and support the safe disposal of surplus synthetic refrigerants to minimise their effect on the environment.

The Refrigerant Recovery Trust (RECOVERY) was formed in 1993 to promote and facilitate the collection, storage and disposal of surplus refrigerant gases used in refrigeration and air-conditioning and are now being discarded with the aim to minimise and avoid any release of ozone-depleting gases into our environment. Members of RECOVERY come from various industry groups, including food manufacturers, supermarkets, appliance manufacturers and importers, and the motor vehicle industry.

The RECOVERY programme is funded through a wholesale levy that is placed on every kilogram of imported refrigerant and paid by participating companies. A service to dispose of unwanted gases is offered at no charge to industry participants and includes the provision of secure transfer units and storage tanks. Once collected, gases are transported to accredited collection depots in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, and then transferred to overseas destruction facilities.
Without the efforts of RECOVERY to encourage industry support and compliance through effective product stewardship, harmful refrigerant gases would continue to be lost into the Earth’s atmosphere.
